Working on a new canvas "Arbutus, Snow Scene #1"

Welcome to my website and studio!

My medium is usually acrylic and I paint on canvas and water colour paper.  I started painting in my early 20's mostly for my enjoyment.  However, as the years progressed I started to take my art more seriously.  I have taken many workshops over the years, learning about composition, colour relationships, various mediums and always, I was told to "paint what moves me".   Devloping my own personal style of painting has taken time and is on-going, but I strive with each canvas to capature with paint, what I felt, what I want to "say" to you, the viewer.   I want you to experience the same excitement I feel when a composition presents itself.  To capture on canvas, in a simple and imprestionistic style, the natural beauty of a scene that "won't let you go"!

I love colour and the way the rays of the sun can make a simple object glow, the transparency of colours, the reflections of light and the many colours in shadow.
Since our recent move to Vancouver Island, I am surrounded by spectacular West Coast scenery.  Capturing the sights, sounds and moods of this breathtaking country has become a new challenge.   I hope I am up to it!
